NOTIFICATION
New Delhi, the 30th December, 1999

          S.O. 1309(E)-- Whereas, in the exercise of the powers conferred by Section 9 of the Working Journalists and  Other Newspaper Employees (Conditions of Service) and Miscellaneous Provisions Act, 1955, the Central Government,  by Notification No. S.O. 641(E) dated 02 September 1994, constituted Wage Board for Working Journalists for the  purpose of fixing or revising rates of wages in respect of working journalists.

           Whereas the Board has now made tentative proposals of rates of wages in respect of working journalists (newspapers and news agencies), which are being published for general information as Appendices 'A' and 'B' to this Notification.

           Notice is hereby given to the newspaper establishment, news agencies, working journalists and other persons  interested in the fixation or revision of rates of wages of working journalists, calling upon them to make such comments as they may think fit with respect to the tentative proposals.  The comments should be sent to the Office of the Wage Board in the Ministry of Labour, Shram Shakti Bhawan (Room No. 112-113), New Delhi, and must reach the Office within 6 (six) weeks of the date of publication of this notice in the Gazette of India.  On the expiry of seven weeks from  the date on which notice is so published, oral hearing shall be held on the comments.  Dates of hearing of the parties concerned as well as place, venue and time of hearing would be communicated in due course.  Only. those persons/parties who submit their written comments within the time prescribed as above and make a written request for being heard shall  be given the opportunity of oral hearing.

            Notice is hereby also given to the newspaper establishments and news agencies to submit, inter alia. the following information along with their comments on the tentative proposals.

                1. Number of employees (working journalist) along with their designation.

                2. Pay sheets of employees (categorywise) for the months of January, February and March of 1998.

                3. Burden on account of revised scales of pay and allowances   under the tentative proposals, as also due to
                    statutory liabilities such as provident fund and gratuity, and burden on the basis of fitment in respect of
                    each individual employee or group of employees.
